Girls Tennis

Varsity

The Derryfield Girls’ Tennis team has a long and rich history in New Hampshire high school tennis. With the NHIAA change of classifications to divisions, Derryfield Girls Tennis has played in Division I since 2011, the highest level possible in New Hampshire. At this level, the team has earned a State Championship, reached the Finals twice, Semifinals twice and Quarterfinals three times.

In the 13 years until 2010, while competing in Class M/S, the team earned six State Championships, were runners-up six times, and reached the semifinals once. The program has produced two doubles teams State Champions, three state singles semi-finalists, and three doubles teams semi-finalists. These performances have been in competitions that involve all classes/divisions.

Coach Moral has a no-cut policy with the same level of expectations for all in the team. Competitive interscholastic opportunities provide the venue for all the athletes to display their talent. The coach’s philosophy is that all can learn the game and from there, it is elevated to the athlete’s desired goal; the coach will meet the athlete at baseline and grow her game together. All work happens in a challenging, yet fun atmosphere that allows for growth and development and team unity.

JV

The JV Girls’ Tennis team is the developmental portion of a strong tennis program at Derryfield and emphasizes instruction and practice in the fundamentals of tennis. Through regular practices with the varsity squad, we focus on ground strokes, volleys, serve and return, net play, percentage shots, strategy, scoring, etiquette, and sportsmanship. We strive for each player to develop the discipline and fitness needed to succeed in a match. We challenge each other to matches regularly, and we combine players of complementary abilities to form winning doubles pairs. The core JV squad plays a number of matches throughout the season, with each player competing in both singles and doubles matches. Most important to this program is the spirit of fun and competition that emerge in team play. The goal by the end of the season is for each player to have had a meaningful competitive experience and a passion for this lifelong sport.
