Field Hockey – Varsity
Derryfield returned to varsity field hockey in the fall of 1998, after a period of club status playing JV teams only. The team posted a 2-11 record in Class M/S that season and had a winning (9-6) record in 2000. Since 2004, Derryfield has made several Final Four appearances, were finalists in 2005 and 2006, and won the school’s first-ever State Title in 2007 with a 17-0 record. After semifinal losses in 2008 and 2009, the team won its way back into the final in 2010, 2011, and 2012 seasons, capturing a historic three-peat DIII State Championship run for the first time in school history and earning Derryfield four titles in six years. In the 2013 season, Derryfield returned to the final for a fourth consecutive year but had to settle for the runner-up trophy. Since the program’s return to varsity status in 1998 Derryfield has won over 275 games. In our endeavors to continually challenge our student-athletes, Derryfield field hockey moved up to Division II in 2014. In 2016, the team finished runners-up, losing in double overtime in the final, but captured their first-ever DII championship in the fall of 2018 with a 1-0 win over Hanover HS. The team won the Tri-County League championships in 2014 and 2015. Following Coach McCaigue’s retirement after the 2019 season, assistant varsity coach Kelsey Federico assumes the Head Coach position. Coach Federico is an alumna of UMass Lowell where she was a standout Goalkeeper in the NCAA Division 1 program and also brings a wealth of coaching experience in club field hockey with the NorthEast Elite travel team.

Katie Kithcart-Bulk, Head Coach

Coach Kithcart-Bulk enters her second season at the helm of Derryfield Field Hockey! She has spent almost 10 years coaching at the NCAA level at various institutions along the east coast. She started her coaching career at Vassar College after graduating university. Vassar achieved a ranking in the top twenty nationally when she was there. She then moved to Salve Regina University where the team made it to conference championships both years she was there. She spent three years at New England College, helping the team climb the ranks in DIII. Her most recent year was at Limestone University in South Carolina working with athletes from around the world and rebuilding the team culture there. She has a special place in her heart for team culture and motivation. She is also a nationally ranked official and has umpired at the highest levels of domestic field hockey, as well as some international tournaments here in the States. A highlight for her was reffing the recent indoor test series between USA and Ireland. She currently holds a Level II in both outdoor and indoor field hockey. She also holds a Level III Coach certification from the International Hockey Federation (FIH). In addition, she is a coach and administrator with Summit Field Hockey Club and enjoys working with athletes across all skill levels. She is currently working toward a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health and enjoys discussions involving sports psych and how we adapt to stress. She is originally from Derry, New Hampshire and attended Pinkerton Academy. She is very excited to work to continue growing field hockey here at Derryfield!

Kristina Drew joins Derryfield Field Hockey this year as an Assistant for our Varsity and JV squads! She played NCAA DIII field hockey and softball at Thomas College in Waterville, ME. Her playing background is mostly on the attacking side and she is looking forward to working with our team.
