Boys’ Basketball – Varsity
The Derryfield Boys’ Varsity Basketball program was established and guided by NHIAA Hall of Fame coach Dennis Holland, who led the team for 31 years and won a state title in 1983. Since then, the program has had success with consistent appearances in the state tournaments. Numerous players have received All-State recognition from the New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Association and the program is proud to have a strong presence each season on the All-Academic team. The team is presently coached by Ed Meade, whose teams look to be high-pressure on defenses with a quick pace on offense. The team’s recent success is a product of hard work put forth by motivated and skilled players. Since 2010, they have been in the Final Four eight times and have been runners-up twice. The program constantly strives to challenge its opponents and be competitive while maintaining a core of fair play and sportsmanship.

Coach Meade
Ed Meade, Head Coach

Coach Meade is a graduate of Arlington High School in Massachusetts where he was a member of the varsity basketball and track and field teams. He continued his education at Plymouth State University. While there he was a member of the mens’ basketball team.
Coach Meade lives and works in Manchester and is employed as a special education teacher at Easter Seals, Gammon Academy.
Prior to coming to Derryfield, Coach Meade spent five years serving as the head coach for the girls’ basketball team at Epping High School. His college coaching experience includes serving as an assistant coach for Daniel Webster College from 2005-2007 before joining Derryfield for the first time as the boys’ varsity assistant coach from 2007-2010. Before becoming the head coach of the girls’ team at Epping High School, Coach Meade served as the boys JV head and an assistant coach for the varsity team from 2010-2014.
Besides his work on the court and in the classroom, Coach Meade has also been an active member for the last ten years for Meals on Wheels in Manchester. Athletics has also been a family affair for Coach Meade with his son and two daughters all playing sports at Pinkerton Academy. His daughter Emily went on to play college basketball at Lesley University.

Coach Jarrett “Jelly” Bennett has been coaching a variety of sports at the high school level for over 15 years. He started his coaching career with Freestyle Skiing at Loon Mountain during his time at Plymouth State University. His passion for coaching and developing athletes into better versions of themselves both Academically and Athletically runs deep, as he continues to work with athletes at the collegiate level as an Academic Advisor. Coach Jelly has played lacrosse at the collegiate level, and in high school helped his basketball team to two league titles, including a Sectional Finals appearance. His knowledge of the game of basketball and his passion for excellence on the court is something that Coach Jelly is proud of. Coach Jelly is a coach that believes in practice what you preach, so don’t be surprised if you see him running sprints with the team or working on his fundamentals in line drills, albeit a lot slower now than he once was!
