The main court of the Athletic and Wellness Center was filled to capacity on April 16, as the College Counseling Office hosted its second annual college fair. The event gave both sophomores and juniors the opportunity to be introduced to a wide range of schools. The geographic representation stretched from New England, to Pennsylvania, the mid-Atlantic, the south, the midwest, and even Canada. The event was well timed to get both juniors and sophomores thinking about the diverse array of college options that are available to them after graduation.
Before the event, Rebecca Kosakowski, Director of College Counseling, and Jill Teeters, Associate Director of College Counseling, met with the sophomores and juniors to discuss both the purpose of the event, and how to communicate with admission officers. For some, it was their first experience meeting with college representatives. Kosakowski and Teeters encouraged students to “sample the buffet”– and to talk to a variety of school representatives in order to broaden their range of options.
Teeters noted,
“Having a college fair on campus each spring allows all students to make connections with colleges from across the country, without having to travel. Students see, first hand, a diverse variety of post secondary options. Many of these schools will return in the fall to speak to students as they prepare their applications and determine which schools will be a good fit for them.”
Feedback from the college admissions officers regarding their experience at Derryfield was overwhelmingly positive.
“Students were very well prepared for the college fair and asked excellent questions.”
“Such wonderful conversations.”
“The staff and students were so very welcoming! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!”
The 2025 college application season is drawing to a conclusion; May 1 is National College Decision Day, when high school seniors need to confirm their enrollment.
