HOPKINTON ART GALLERY OPENS COLORFUL NEW EXHIBIT
The upcoming exhibition at Two Villages Art Society (TVAS) in Hopkinton, N.H., features the work of Bedford, N.H., artist Marcie Roberts. The exhibition, “Colorful Contemplations, Abstract Realities,” opens Saturday, September 14, 2024 and runs through October 12 at the gallery at 846 Main Street in the village of Contoocook. An opening reception from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 is free and open to the public and will offer light refreshments, as well as live music by cellist Gary Hodges.
Marcie Roberts’ acrylic paintings are bright and colorful, and often whimsical. She is inspired by master artists as well as the students she has taught. She feels a special connection with the Spanish masters, including Dali, El Greco and Goya, and the fantasy artist James Christensen.
Roberts has taught Spanish, painting, and other art classes at the Derryfield School and taught elementary and middle school students in her own studio. Now, she focuses on her art. “I am always exploring new mediums and directions in my art,” she says. “My range of artwork experience runs the gamut from murals in children’s rooms to custom commission paintings, decorative furniture, logos, and pamphlets to set design and set painting—all of which brings me to where I am as an artist today.”
Largely self-taught, Roberts has taken classes in portraiture, still life, architectural renderings, and art history and developed an eclectic mixed-media portfolio. “My subject matter comes full circle back to images I see in nature, expressions on people’s faces and both organic abstracts and realism,” she says. “I enjoy acrylic, watercolor pencil, pouring and sculpting mediums, pen and India ink. I love going deep into detail on a small scale and then blasting into larger-than-life images. My journey means more exploration and following my instincts in the realms of imagination and fantasy.”
“Colorful Contemplations, Abstract Realities” runs through October 12. Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 12:00-4:00 p.m. The current show, “Something to Remember,” closes September 7 and the gallery will be closed September 8-13.
