The Derryfield girls alpine team headed to Cannon on February 14 to compete at the D4 State Championship. There was sunshine, no wind, and some very firm snow, making for a great race day. In the morning GS, our six athletes put together twelve strong runs for a second place finish. Senior captain Lilly Handwerk led the girls team with a 5th place finish, followed closely by sophomore Teagan Peabody in 9th, junior Aubrey Webb in 15th, sophomore Chloe Larson in 18th, junior Alex Benson in 23rd, and sophomore Pola Jankowska in 26th.
After lunch and a course reset, the girls came back out to race two runs of slalom. Again Handwerk led the girls with a 7th place finish, Peabody took 8th, Larson took 11th, junior Piper Locke took 14th, and Webb took 15th.
For the fourth year in a row, the Derryfield girls garnered the silver at the D4 State Championship. As top ten finishers, Lilly Handwerk and Teagan Peabody qualified for the Meet of Champions at Cannon.
