Whether Derryfield students graduate with experience building a house for Habitat for Humanity, leading tours for prospective students and parents, or serving food in the soup kitchen, we are confident that service to the community and compassion for others are values that they will carry with them as they move forward in their lives.
Service Learning
In the Classroom
Service Learning projects have specific curricular goals and outcomes and are often incorporated into a class. All sixth and eighth graders participate in classroom-based service projects that involve our students with the immigrant and refugee community in Manchester. Upper School courses also provide opportunities to participate in service-learning projects.
GIVE Club
Upper School students have the opportunity to become involved in community service activities through GIVE club. GIVE members meet once every other week (while GIVE leaders meet once every week) to plan activities and projects for different service opportunities locally. Activities range from blood drives to clothing drives, to volunteering at RiverWoods, and many more.

Special Olympics of NH
The mission of Special Olympics New Hampshire is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Breakthrough Manchester
Breakthrough Manchester is a diverse community of learners that strives for excellence by empowering young people to achieve their educational goals. A tuition-free, year-round, multi-year, academic program, Breakthrough Manchester is based upon a dual mission. First, Breakthrough helps promising Manchester middle school students, particularly those with limited opportunities, build the skills and confidence to enter and succeed in college preparatory high school programs. Second, through its “students teaching students” model, the program inspires talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education.
Fueled By Kids
Fueled By Kids is an organization committed to ending childhood food insecurity. FBK fills the 67 hour gap between when students (most of whom are participating in the National School Lunch Program) receive lunch on Friday afternoons and again when they receive breakfast on Monday morning, alleviating the food anxiety that many of these children experience as a result of not knowing where their next meal is coming from.

Our mission moves us to empower people experiencing homelessness. We do that by providing dignified housing, by delivering comprehensive and innovative solutions, by developing collaborative relationships with our clients and partners, and by creating opportunities for donors and volunteers committed to making a difference where they live and work.
RiverWoods
RiverWoods was founded by a grassroots group of residents, around a kitchen table, who wanted a new way to live an active life with the promise of health care if and when it was needed. That dream came true with the opening of our first campus in 1994, and we haven’t stopped dreaming or growing since.
